Chicago, IL- Hell in a Handbag Productions is proud to announce a special benefit performance of their shocking new musical Caged Dames. Proceeds benefit the Roar Foundation/Shambala Preserve, founded by their good friend Tippi Hedren, star of the classic films, The Birds and Marnie, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Ticket holders are also invited to a pre-show reception for appetizers, a cash bar and a chat with Tippi!
Caged Dames by David Cerda is a musical parody of 1950’s women in prison/exploitation films that tells the gripping tale of an innocent young woman who - through a series of unfortunate events - finds herself in the Calumet City Women’s Penitentiary. Needles to say, her life changes -FOREVER…
The Tippi Hedren/ Hell in a Handbag connection began in the Fall of 2001 when Ms. Hedren attended the critically acclaimed Chicago production of The Birds, an offbeat adaptation of the classic Hitchcock film. When this adaptation, written by David Cerda and Pauline Pang opened in Los Angeles in 2005, Tippi Hedren helped champion the LAWeekly Theater Award nominated production.
The Roar Foundation/Shambala Preserve, founded by Tippi Hedren, is a 501(C)(3)nonprofit, tax-exempt charitable organization that provides sanctuary for exotic animals - who have suffered from gross mistreatment and neglect- so they can regain their physical and mental health and live out their lives in dignity.
