My Way of Life- Ketchup

Although I posted a thank you on The Joans website I wanted to thank all the Handbag/Joans friends and fans that made it to Flesh Hungry Dog rock show Friday, Aug. 3. Was it a success? It was the bestnight they ever had, which of course is very gratifying to know. We played with fab bands The Retardos de La Mour and Sick of Sarah and the talented Andy Eninger with Gayco performed too.
It was so wonderful to see so many familiar faces in the crowd. There were also a lot of unfamiliar faces in the crowd which was wonderful. New fans! We had some sound problems but I was very proud of the band. We even had an obnoxious drunken ‘fan’ who got more annoying as the evening went on going as far grabbing me onstage! The nerve! I kind of wanted to kick him, but how would that look in front of the fans?
Last night we were a last minute replacement at The Note in Wicker Park. We played with a band called The Start. They had a cool new wave sound with a hip trendy gayish following and they’re popular so even though it was a Monday night there were actually about 40 people in the room. The sound was terrific- what a difference a good sound man and system makes! It was a bit warm but the sweat actually made it feel a bit more like rock and roll and we all had a lot of fun. It’s really cool to see how the band is progressing. Needless to say I should be tired as I got home at 1am but I’m not.
I’m meeting with The Birds director Scott Bradley and our new stage manager and associate producer Jay Kennedy and Jodi Gottberg. We’re getting our ducks in a role…

Are your ducks gonna play chickens?! I love that photo, y’all! Sorry I missed the show. BTW, I’d pay to watch you kick people, David.
The Flesh Hungry Dog show was a load of fun, even with Crazy Drunk Guy. We have great fans…
I can’t believe how much fun I had at The Note! I was so crabby, trudging along in the rain with my cymbals, but everything ran so smoothly! That place really does rock…in all senses!
Friday was great, even with the cute, but inattentive sound guy. I wish we could have gone Monday, but that’s a high workout day for us, and we generally have trouble staying awake past 9. We do plan on seeing your upcoming shows.
