My Way of Life- RIP Brett Somers
I would be remiss in my title of pop culture geek if I didn’t mourn the loss of one of television’s best saucy broads, Ms. Brett Somers of Match Game fame. I loved Match Game and I loved Brett Somers. As a child I always felt like I was secretly listening in on a very adult party. The contestants on Match Game had a bawdy humor and smoked on the set! Even Betty White was naughty on The Match Game! Brett always wore her trademark big tinted glasses perhaps covering up bloodshot eyes brought on from a few whiskeys she and the cast had to wind down after a day of taping. She had impeccable comic delivery and her banter with Charles Nelson Reilly (who passed away in May) was some of the best and cattiest on television. I loved her as Oscar Madison’s ex-wife, Blanche in the television version of The Odd Couple. Of course, she was Jack Klugman’s ex-wife in real life, and she sort of looked like him in drag, which made it even funnier. Her cult following, especially amongst the gays of a certain age- is legendary. Goodbye Ms. Somers. It’s the end of an era.

It was obviously another Richard Dawson revenge killing.
That was my laugh of the day Miss Greenfield.
Aww, that makes me so sad. I loved that show as a kid, too. I wanted to grow up to be just like them! Charles and Brett, that is…
