I don’t know why I thought that maybe this time would be any different then last time. Or the time before. We were snubbed by the Jeff Committee again. They could not find ONE thing that they all liked about the show. Not one. I don’t mean to come off like some Kanye West wannabee (at least he was nominated), but considering this is one of two awards available in Chicago for theater it’s just very frustrating. Want to get more frustrated? Look at what has been recommended and has actually won. Bland crap. The kind you spread on crackers and try to pass off as pate’. I am not saying all of the recommendations and nominees are undeserving. As my husbands mother used to say- even a broken clock is right twice a day. Or… as my director friend just e-mailed to me- Fuck ‘em.

Don’t invite them anymore. If you must, charge them double! I mean it.
Let’s see… the Jeff committee recommends “bland crap” and you want to be recommended by them because… Honestly, your work is head and shoulderpads above the “pate” they like, so why bother with seeking their approval? In my entire career, I think they gave my shows one nomination — and that was for set design! Your director is right, “Fuck ‘em.” Pearls before swine!
They probably didn’t get all the Camille Paglia jokes. They probably don’t know who Camille Paglia is.
While I agree that there isn’t any point in getting upset over a group that gives awards out based on what they personally like, which is basically a popularity contest then, and not about the theatrical merits of theater productions, do you think bashing them in your open to the public blog makes them feel inclined to think differently?
Do you really think the Jeff committee reads this blog?

Well, you woud be surprised how nastiness gets around. And while [I]they[/I] might not read it, some one might and say something. And of course if someone is going to repeat what they read off the intrawebs, they certainly are going to make it more…interesting then it really is.
Besides, i hear the Jeff committee are all Sniff Queens.
It’s all political–just enjoy doing what you do. The audiences clearly are. If anyone–ANYONE–doesn’t get it, it’s their problem.
