My Way of Life
My God it’s cold outside.
Last night Ed and I went to see Bare at the Bailiwick last night which I admit I was ready to dislike- but I ended up enjoying it. Granted, it was too long, and it’s message was one we’ve heard a million times before- but it was effective. It was a gay teenage love story in a private Catholic high school. The gay teen struggling with being gay story with tragic consequences. There’s an article in the Windy City Times about the Bailiwicks financial struggles, something all theaters seem to have. I don’t intend to turn this into one of the many pompous Chicago ‘theater’ blogs out there, so I will simply say that when half of what you do is quality, and the other half not quality, people remember the latter, because people thrive on seeing people fail. So, you just have to work on changing that perception I suppose. Don’t ask me how- it’s just a one show at a time thing. I can’t imagine the pressure of filling every single day with quality theater that will fill seats. But I’m sure there will be plenty of opinions out there. We will be presenting Die! Mommie Die! at the Bailiwick in April- if it’s still open.
