My Way of Life

“Let me pretend to light that cigarette while you pretend to smoke it”

Here is some absurd news that I’m sure all of you in the theater commmnity know about. Jersey Boys is now smoke free. Why? Because someone complained. Some concerned citizen with lots of time on their hands. Now, I doubt that they use real cigarettes in the production and if all it takes is one person to complain for this happen where the hell are the people that listen to these city related complaints for things that really matter? We used herbal cigarettes in Die! Mommie, Die! very briefly  and I only heard a ‘complaint’ in the form of a loud fake cough. The fake smoke option was brought up to us for Die! Mommie, Die! and in The Birds. Personally, I thought that was ridiculous but it just may come to that. This is why I hate people.

  1. I’m with you on that…and it’s another reason I don’t go to “Broadway In Chicago.” It seems to attract the lowest common denominator as its audience: people from the ‘burbs who want to brag to their friends that they’ve been to “the theatah,” or who just can’t resist the bells and whistles of “Wicked.” But when it comes to really telling the story (and sometimes that includes smoking), they get all squeamish and “hallway monitor” about it.

Seriously, if they’re so anxious to go back to 6th grade, why don’t they go outside and pound some erasers? Against their head.

  2. oh for the love of the christ in a kotex! That is just moronic that someone would have complained and even more so that the complaint was taken that seriously! I’m with you, I hate people.
