My Way of Life

So the hamster wheel that is the Handbag theater season keeps rolling along and Saturday we had auditions for Silent Night of the Lambs a very funny script not written by myself, but from Mr. Ryan Landry of the Boston Gold Dust Orphans. I just have not had the time to sit and write and I felt Rudolph needed a break after the the last production. The ensemble is in high demand too so the people who would be great for the show are unavailable. The auditions went well and we cast our Clarice- that is until I called her and she told me she had accepted another role 10 minutes before. Then there is the actor who has not bothered to return my calls or e-amil. He’s either dead or an asshole. So now myself and the director are scrambling to find a Clarice. Big fun. On the plus side we have a great cast which includes Ed Jones, Elizabeth Lesinski, Jefrey Wilkerson, Anthony DiNicola and myself.

Tomorrow the authors of HAYWIRE!will be in attendance which is both fun and a bit nervewracking. I have been in the position of seeing total strangers do my works and have had both wonderful and not so wonderful experiences. You really can’t tell people how to see your work. Well, I guess you could but I have not. Anyway, HAYWIRE! is a bitch of a show (I mean that in a good way), and it only works if all the plates are spinning at once so by the end of the show I, along with the rest of the cast are spent. It’s a silly, very funny show and in all honesty the plates were not all spinning on opening night which may account for the divergent reviews. We had a group of critics the next week when the plates were spinning wildly and I think they saw a different show. Believe me, Handbag fans will love it or we wouldn’t be doing it.

So come see HAYWIRE! and save $5 when you make your reservation in advance with the discount code ‘joan’.
