Steve Kimbrough is a native Chicagoan who has been doing local theater for as long as he can remember. He started out doing a traveling show for senior citizens with his local Eagle Scout troupe. His first plunge into theater was in Resurrection High School’s production of the musical Betsy, loosely based on the story of Betsy Ross, in 1976. After that, there was no stopping him. For years he could be found all over the city and suburbs, including several productions at Theater on the Lake. Among his favorite roles were Curly in Oklahoma; Danny in Grease; Linus in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown (with his “Manny”, Mike Miller playing Schroeder); and Matt in The Fantasticks.
In the early 90s Steve started doing cabaret and has been seen in local clubs ever since. In 2001 he released his debut CD The Here and Now with John Paluch. In 2001 he also met the wonderful David Cerda, and before you knew it he was back on stage playing Belle Rosen in POSEIDON! Steve was always a huge fan of the movie having seen it 34 times in the movie theater, and it was truly a dream come true to be a part of Handbag’s maiden voyage. Since then he has been seen on the Bailiwick stage in the Jeff Award-winning production of Parade, and continues to pop up on stages around the city as well as continuing his cabaret career in Chicago.
Steve needs to thank David Cerda and David Zak for giving him the chance to get back on stage. What a wonderful gift it has been. Many thanks go to his family for all their support through the years, and all his wonderful Handbag friends. Last, but not least, he would like to thank his handsome and talented partner Fred Goudy for making every day a dream come true. For more on Steve visit his website at SteveKimbrough.com
